"Mikhail Lermontov". The last cruise.
In 1986 the best liner of the USSR passenger fleet "Mikhail Lermontov" with over 800 passengers and crewmen on board sunk near the shores of New Zealand. The liner was destined and catered for western tourists only; not many people in the former USSR knew about its existence. Its life was secrecy; its loss is still another mystery.
The film interprets the catastrophe of the "Mikhail Lermontov" from different points of view. It reconstructs the chronology of the tragedy and the details of the crash coming from the witnesses; tells the story of saving the passengers' lives and the history of the ship that mirrors the history of the Soviet passenger fleet. You will go into the shipwreck investigation conducted in Russia and in New Zealand and will know about the wreck's lot: now it lies at the bottom of the bay of Port Gore and is an object for commercial diving and marauding.
Film duration: 52 min.
